For me, the sculpture Quiet Moments embodies the timeless, unspoken bond between people and their animals. Our affections for them are so often better expressed in the actions we take rather than the words that we might use; whether it’s lingering just long enough to pet them a little extra, taking that extra second to gaze deeply into their eyes, or rubbing their belly or sore muscles, they grace us with limitless and unconditional affection. Quite often this comfort comes at times when we need it most and expect it least (at least for the uninitiated) from our non-human companions.
This sculpture was inspired by my mornings with our black Labrador Jasper. He was our ‘first child,’ and with the arrival of the pink puppy (little George) we often only had those few, quiet moments in the predawn darkness between waking up and my heading out to the studio. Jasper would lie in my path at the end of the bed, laying his trap, so that neither of us would miss out on our quality time together before the day, and the world, had its way with us.
Quiet Moments measures 20″L x 5.75″ W x 10.75″H and is an edition of 22. $4,200. This sculpture also comes in a miniature version (6″L x 1.5″ W x 3″H; Edition of 30) at $550.
